writing

Ok, I will respond to the demands of my public- all six of you. So I've been posting from a cafe that has wireless internet. It's great. There are a lot of young rich people in here, and everyone is excited about the World Cup. There is a guy in here right now with the World Cup theme song as his ringtone!

Speaking of ringtones, the Colombians in the audience will be surprised to know that Shakira is v. popular here- but only her most recent songs (in English).

I go to class from 8:00am each day until 12:00. Then I eat lunch with friends and walk around visiting places in Hanoi. A lot of people like to talk to us so I count that as listening practice. All the people on the program are nice and very interesting. Our hotel is nice, and we have cable in our rooms, so other than sharing the room, it is pretty cushy. I certainly wouldn't be able to watch the World Cup from bed at home!

Eating here is great, and the food is fresh and really delicious. Mom would like all the fresh herbs with everything. Dad would like all the grilled meats. Eduardo would like all the fish. And Sean would enjoy watching me spit fish bones on the floor.

Athena- there is a club in Hanoi called "Funky Monkey", I'll try to get a picture for you!

Arrival

Hey Everyone!

Thanks for checking in on my progress. We made it safe and sound. Hanoi is more beautiful than I was ready for. I met some of the other people on the program and it looks like it will be a good summer. Food is great!

Map of Viet Nam

I thought I'd post a map so that everyone can see where I am going. Maybe I made it too small. Anyway, http://www.lib.utexas.edu/maps/vietnam.html is a great place to see maps of VN.
